This homestead on the east side of Council Bluffs formerly belonged to master gardeners and was already elaborately landscaped and planted when the new owners moved in. Their priorities included making it safer for small children, since they ran a forest school on the premises two days a week. Other goals included reducing the number of non-native plants and replacing them with native ones with educational value. Since the property includes a forest, protecting the garden from deer and other wildlife was also important.
